Representing Ata Hāpara

We had to design a costume that represented Ata Hāpara. First, we talked about what Ata Hāpara meant. It is all about the dawn chorus - the many singing in the early morning as Tamanui-te-rā comes up. Then designed a vision board together thinking of all the colours and things that we thought of when we thought of Ata Hāpara. After that in rōpū we collaborated and decided on a design that we all agreed on. The kaiako got lots of different materials for us and then we looked at our design and adapted it to fit the different materials. We all worked in our rōpū creating our costumes. After a few sessions, we looked at what designs we had so far and talked about what we needed to do to add to them and then we kept working. Finally, we were finished and we walked down a catwalk to show off our designs.

Have a look at our kiriata showing all of our amazing mahi!
