Wētā went for a walk.

We have been reading a big book about a wētā that went for a walk in the bush one night.  We made a list of all the things that wētā and rat did in the story.  Then we drew a picture of some of the things.  Have a look at our mahi...

Ko au, ko koe, ko tāua

Have a look at our art - all about us...

I am

We took some pictures in the playground and then we talked about what we were doing in the pictures.  Then we thought of sentences starting with the words I am.  We all found the word I and the word am around the akomanga and wrote them at the beginning of our sentence.  Then we told the kaiako what the rest of our sentence was.  Some of us had a go at writing the sounds we could hear.  We were very proud of our writing and put them up on the wall!

Greedy Cat

Today we read some books about Greedy Cat.  We then drew a picture of a cat.  We put all the pictures together and sorted them in different ways.  Firstly we sorted them by colour.

We discovered that there were more black cats than any other colour.  There were 7 black cats.  There were 4 cats that were orange just like Greedy Cat.

We then had a think about another way we could group the cats.  We decided that we would group them by size.

We decided to put all the big cats together, all the medium size cats together and all the small cats together.  We discovered that the largest group was the small cats because there was 9 in that group.  The smallest group was the big cats.  There were 2 in that group.

We then worked with a buddy and looked at different pictures of cats.  We had to decide together how we would group them.

Have a look at how we grouped them:

We put them in 4 groups.  We grouped them using their colours.  The biggest group was brown cats.  The smallest group was the black coloured cats. Kyra and Amaliyah

We sorted ours into 3 groups.  We sorted our cats by different patterns.  We had a group of cats with spots, cats with stripes and cats with no pattern. Oliver and Jekamiah
